ARCA Open Test At Kentucky September 22nd

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, on the heels of Saturday’s race event at Salem Speedway in southern Indiana, will skip over the Ohio River and steer for Kentucky Speedway Tuesday, September 22 for a full day of open testing in preparation for the Crosley Brands 150 raceevent at Kentucky Friday night, September 25.

Several ARCA teams have already pre-entered the open test including NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers Ryan Reed (LiraMotorsports) and Daniel Suarez in a Venturini Motorsports Toyota. Venturini Motorsports also expects to be testing Brandon Jones and William Byron. Jones is already a two-time ARCA winner (2014) and Byron finished second in his series debut at Lucas Oil Raceway back in late July.

Lira Motorsports is expected to bring four cars to the open test, one of which will be occupied by Reed, who started the season with a win in the Xfinity Series at Daytona. Reed also won his first ARCA race back in June at Chicagoland Speedway. Other entrants for Lira Motorsports include ARCA’s leading SCOTT Rookie of the Year contender David Levine, Sevierville, Tennessee’s Blake Jones (ARCA winner at Talladega) and Easley, South Carolina’s Kyle Benjamin, a two-time ARCA winner at Madison and Salem.

ARCA Announces 10-Race TV Schedule for 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Officials from ARCA and FOX Sports Media Group jointly announced at the International Motorsports Industry Show the 2013 television schedule for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, comprised of 10 events to be televised live or on a same-day delay on SPEED.

The 2013 ARCA television schedule will open on SPEED on Saturday, February 16. Live flag-to-flag coverage of ARCA's 50th consecutive annual event at the world-renowned Daytona International Speedway will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Other events scheduled for live and/or same-day SPEED coverage in 2013 include races at Talladega Superspeedway on May 3; Toledo Speedway on May 19;Pocono Raceway on June 8 and August 2; Michigan International Speedway on June 14; Chicagoland Speedway on July 21; Iowa Speedway on September 7; Kentucky Speedway on September 20; and the season finale at Kansas Speedway on October 4.

Team Owner wants to hire Jeremy Mayfield?

Per SportingNews.com, ARCA team owner Roger Carter said Tuesday that he wants to put the embattled Jeremy Mayfield in one of his cars.

He hopes to field a car for Mayfield in the June race at Pocono Raceway, but Carter is not sure if Mayfield can compete that soon in the Midwest-based stock-car series.

Carter currently operates Carter 2 Motorsports and has a long history of involvement in racing, including with the Sadler Brothers Racing team that put Mayfield in a Cup car for the first time in 1993.

“I was there when he started his career,” Carter said Tuesday in a phone interview. “He’s a heck of a good guy. He’s made some mistakes, no question about it. I feel like he wants to redeem himself.

“I know that he means well.”

Mayfield, who has five wins in 433 career Cup starts, cannot compete in NASCAR because of a suspension for a failed May 2009 drug test, which Mayfield disputes and has sued the sanctioning body.

That ban doesn’t cover other sanctioning bodies. An ARCA spokesman said that because Mayfield has not applied for an ARCA license, the sanctioning body has no comment.
